The position will be a member of the Information Solutions (IS) Data Intelligence organization and will report to the Director – Data Technology and Strategy.   While the position is based out of the Wickliffe, Ohio location, Lubrizol offers flexible work arrangements.


The Data Governance and Engagement Implementer is a critical role to embed new governance policies and data technologies into the daily routines of all parts of the Lubrizol organization.  In the area of Data Governance, the roles, approval processes, and rules must be defined and rolled out.  In the area of Data Integration Development, the adoption of the data architecture principles and technology will require alignment to broader development tools and best practices as well as education and ongoing support.



Essential Responsibilities


Improve Reliability of Lubrizol Data to support data-driven decisions making:  Data that is inconsistent, incomplete, or unfit for use will result in misleading or conflicting analysis and recommendations.  Furthermore, an inability to measure Lubrizol’s compliance with legal and regulatory rules will result in risks of losing contracts, potential fines, and negative impact to Lubrizol’s reputation.  The Data Governance and Engagement Implementer therefore will need to improve the governance of data to ensure its quality, usage, and auditability through the following:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities across the Lubrizol organization and the data elements’ ownership to map data stewards to the appropriate data.
  • Develop expertise on data governance concepts around compliance, data quality, and data security. 
  • Document roles and responsibilities, new rules, and communications to increase the organizational understanding of data governance.
  • Provide requirements and testing of tools to manage approval workflow, data catalog, and usage auditing. 


Improve Security and Scale of Lubrizol Data:  In order to protect Lubrizol’s intellectual property and empower the organization to leverage complex data to drive decisions the security and scalability of the data technology stack must be improved.  Adoption of the new technology stack and processes are a key to success which the Data Governance and Engagement Implementer will encourage by:

  • Provide requirements and sign off, as a stakeholder of the technical architects, on principles around data storage, processing, and consumption.  Provide a “voice of the customer” collaborating with technical architects to highlight potential risks on organization adoption, skills, etc.
  • Collaborate with change management effort to profile stakeholders and shape messaging to both inform and influence the stakeholders.
  • Provide organizational context and recommendations when establishing advisory board, training materials, and pilot candidates.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Training development and delivery experience.
  • 2+ years stakeholder management experience.
  • Leverage design thinking interview techniques (particularly empathizing and ideating) to understand business needs and constraints to design processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.



Preferred Skills and Qualifications:


  • Functional understanding of data management and catalog tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation.
  • Functional understanding of analytics technologies such as Power BI, Tableau, Azure Data Lake, Google Cloud Platform, Informatica.
