Lubrizol is currently looking for a Senior Director, Government Affairs. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and leading Lubrizol’s strategy to successfully engage with the federal government to protect, grow and transform Lubrizol’s business and meet Lubrizol’s objectives. You would serve as a key external representative of Lubrizol with key federal policy stakeholders. You will also actively support and lead Lubrizol corporate and business government affairs objectives with the US federal government. Additionally, you will act as lead US federal government lobbyist for Lubrizol in Washington DC, as well as to build and manage engagements with policy makers, decision makers, trade associations and consultants to ensure implementation of Lubrizol’s legislative, regulatory and political priorities. 


What you will do: 

  • Develop and lead Lubrizol’s strategy to successfully engage with the US federal government to protect, grow and transform Lubrizol’s business and meet Lubrizol’s objectives.
  • Serve as a key external representative of and lobbyist for policy priorities and objectives with key US federal government policy stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain and expand relationships and communications with relevant policy makers to ensure Lubrizol is known as a thought and policy leader on issues and policies impacting the specialty chemicals industry and related markets (including transportation and industrial lubricants and additives, durable polymer technology, medical device, pharma, personal and home care).
  • Lead advocacy that advances Lubrizol’s policy and business interests before US federal policy makers and decision makers; and
  • Leverage Lubrizol’s expertise and knowhow in identifying and pursuing US federal government engagement opportunities that protect, grow and transform Lubrizol’s leadership in the specialty chemical industry and related markets.
  • Manage Lubrizol Political Action Committee


What you need: 

  • Advanced degree JD or equivalent (MA, MBA) strongly preferred
  • Experience in or advocating to US government officials and members, including in the US Senate and House of Representatives and Committees, as well as key government agencies and departments (6-10 years)
  • Experience serving on the staff(s) of key Jurisdictional Committees (Energy & Commerce, Transportation & Infrastructure, ENR, Commerce, Science & Transportation), EPA or DOE experience helpful
  • Advocacy leadership experience with trade associations
  • Keen insight and excellent market knowledge with a focus on trends and regulations
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Collaborative team management and leadership skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrated in attention to details and organization to meet deadlines
  • Able to deal effectively with ambiguity, change and uncertainty
  • Comfortable with and able to influence senior leadership
  • Work effectively with multicultural team members to solve complex problems and implement solutions
  • Demonstrate influence with internal and external groups
