HSES Specialist

 

Job Summary:

We currently have a ambitious and rewarding position for a health, safety, environmental, and security professional at our Tehachapi, California manufacturing site.

As the HSES Specialist, your primary responsibility is assuring the site is in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and Lubrizol requirements. This position provides technical expertise to plant personnel in the areas of health, safety, environmental, and security while working in cross-functional teams to assist in developing and maintaining site HSES management systems.

The HSES Specialist is responsible for supporting continual improvement in Safety, Operational Excellence, and Cybersecurity to ensure the site operates safely, protecting our employees and community. This position reports directly to the site manager.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining site safety processes that include confined space entry, hot work, lockout/tagout, and elevated work
  • Maintaining site safety regulatory programs that include OSHA, Medical Surveillance, Workers Compensation, Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), and DOT
  • Maintaining site environmental programs that include Environmental Compliance Calendar, SPCC, NDPES, SARA 311/312 reporting, TRI, Air Permit, RCRA and waste management (must be familiar with California regulations)
  • Participating in haza
  • rd assessment activities that include safety inspections, issuing permits, investigations, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Training site personnel in health, safety, environmental, and security requirements
  • Coordinating RC14001 program for the site
  • Tracking site HSES metrics
  • Communicating verbally and in written correspondence with regulatory agencies
  • Providing regular updates on performance to site, regional, and corporate management
  • Minimal travel is required

 

Skills, Qualification, Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NIOSH, TSCA, DOT, CWA, CAA, SARA, EPRCRA,
  • Strong organizational skills including interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter who works well in a team environment
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to meet physical requirements that include the ability to: lift up to 50 lbs; climb ladders; wear PPE that includes respirators, SCBA, and fall protection harnesses

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis Investigation
  • Experience with Human Performance Improvement (HPI)
  • Knowledgeable of RC14001
