OVERVIEW

 

Responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership in the development and implementation of the facility’s HSES and Responsible Care® programs and initiatives to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and corporate and industry standards consistent with Lubrizol’s Corporate Philosophy, and Health, Safety, Environment and Security policy.  Reports to Plant Manager.

 

CHARACTERISTICS

 

This position is responsible for managing, developing and implementing programs and initiatives in HSES compliance management and RC14001 programs.  This individual must have experience managing HSES either as an individual contributor or as a leader within a plant/facility HSES department.  This person will manage exempt and contract personnel and must be able to provide the leadership necessary to support the facility Leadership Team and site staff members to achieve the over-arching goals of regulatory compliance, elimination of injuries and continuous improvement in HSES.   This position demonstrates Lubrizol’s cultural beliefs of being all in, leading decisively, taking action, thinking external and being courageous.

 

This is a highly visible position requiring significant interaction with all levels of the facility organization, outside parties and corporate HSES functions.     

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of HSES programs and initiatives in support of the facility’s compliance programs, RC14001 System, and facility/corporate goals.
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies and standards.
  • Develop, deploy and audit HSES employee training programs.
  • Identify needs, prioritize, develop, and implement HSES department activities to ensure that it is supporting and contributing to the goals and objectives of the plant.
  • Manage complex environmental matters related to ground water, air permitting, SWPP & SPCC.
  • Manage performance and development of exempt and contract personnel in the HSES Department.
  • Represent Lubrizol at community activities (e.g. LEPC, local emergency responders) as appropriate.
  • Provide technical/professional support regarding applicable Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSE&S) regulations and issues at the site.
  • Develop and/or maintain HSE&S recordkeeping system that provides timely reporting both internally and to external agencies.
  • Manage HSE&S projects and programs in a cost-effective manner.
  • Participate as an auditor in the Corporate HSE&S and RC14001 audit program upon request.
  • Attend training and seminars necessary to maintain proficiency in HSE&S skills and knowledge.
  • Serve as a plant media contact.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

     

  • Bachelor degree in science, engineering, occupational health or related major.
  • Five or more years of HSES management experience in a chemical manufacturing environment. 
  • Proven track record for managing complex environmental matters.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment.
  • Ability to work successfully with internal and external customers in a professional manner
  • Must be able to work with regulatory representatives and outside parties in a professional manner.
