Summary of Responsibilities

 

Use voice of customer and market research to identify opportunities in our strategic markets where Lubrizol can develop differentiated products or services to address unmet needs. 

Plan, advocate for, and drive internally funded innovation projects, in close collaboration with Lubrizol’s technical staff, to develop and commercialize differentiated products. 

Develop and propose customer funded innovation projects. Design these projects in close collaboration with customers and advocate for funding. Serve as the primary point of contact with these customers to communicate progress on funded projects. 

 

Essential Job Functions  

  • Develop a thorough understanding of technology, applications, and performance requirements in the medical polymers and device market
  • Study specific technical platforms, patents and development habits of key customers in the segment to supplement knowledge of current practices and market trends
  • Work closely with the regional sales team to develop strong relationships with key personnel at customers’ technical departments to better understand customer needs and market dynamics; participate in customer trials and product testing as necessary
  • Develop Lubrizol’s basis for differentiation and competitive advantage by leverging synergies between the medical polymer technical team and the medical device development department
  • Maintain opportunity database and projects pipeline to manage execution of key opportunities and projects 
  • Plan and gain internal support for innovation projects that address unmet needs around new products and/or applications that will deliver unique or differentiated solutions valued by customers
  • Drive progress to ensure project milestones are completed on time and within budget.  
  • Report on progress of development projects during innovation reviews as required
  • Develop selling (and business) cases to communicate value proposition of projects and products with customers
  • Support the regional and global marketing manager in preparation of promotional and technical material for the market (brochures, technical articles, presentations, etc.)

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer technology, biomedical science/engineering or similar field
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience, preferrably in the area of medical polymers and/or medical devices and polymer processing technologies, i.e. extrusion and injection molding
  • Commercial experience in areas like business development, sales or product management
  • Demonstrated abilities and successes in implementing new product, solution, technology and value selling programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver professional presentations
  • Project management/Stage Gate experience a plus
  • Fluent in English, other European language is considered a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
