Chemtool Incorporated in Rockton, Illinois is currently recruiting for a Process Engineer Co-op beginning in January 2021 through August 2021, to support the Rockton and Crystal Lake manufacturing facilities. The purpose of the Process Engineer Co-op position is to ensure a safe working environment while assisting plant operators in troubleshooting processing and packaging problems, interacting with plant, R&D, and lab personnel to resolve product quality issues, and interacting with the Maintenance team to resolve equipment issues. This position will also identify and execute capital projects related to safety, quality, and efficiency in a safe, cost-effective, and timely manner.

 

Essential Job Functions:

All the specific responsibilities listed below relate to the core of the position. The listing is representative but not necessarily all-inclusive.

  • Understand, comply, and enforce all applicable company and industry health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations
  • Support the safety process through visible leadership initiatives, activities, and involvement
  • Assist the area engineers to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the production facility
  • Work to improve product quality, reduce operating costs, increase capacity, throughput, and productivity, and streamline processes
  • Interact with hourly operating staff to find opportunities to improve performance and minimize waste
  • Conceptualize, justify, initiate, and manage small capital projects
  • Communicate results to colleagues and give a final presentation to business leaders

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate chemical or mechanical engineering degree at an accredited college/university
  • Candidates at a sophomore or higher level are preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively on a team
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Students with a GPA of 3.0 or better will be given priority consideration
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for this position now and/or in the future

 

Supervisory Responsibility and Reporting:

The Process Engineer Co-op reports to the Engineering Co-op Program Manager.

 

Empowerment & Decision Making:

To be successful as a Process Engineer Co-op, the employee must be able to act independently knowing when the Engineering Co-op Program Manager or other operations management, as appropriate, needs to be included in the decision-making process.

  • Co-ops are paid at a competitive rate, $21 - $29 per hour, depending on level of education completed, major, and relevant work experience
