The Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSES) Specialist has the responsibility for supporting the security programs for Rockton, CTC, Crystal Lake, and Tehachapi and the HSES programs at the Rockton facility. 


Essential Job Functions


  1. Monitor and assist the Rockton facility with compliance of all applicable company environmental, safety and health standards as well as all federal, state and local regulations.
  2. Oversee the security of employees, capital assets, and proprietary information of the Chemtool by providing strategic direction, tactical management, and emergency planning.
  3. Work with Securitas security officers and oversee provisions agreed upon by contract between Chemtool and Securitas.
  4. Support the site HSES Manager with day to day work activities and serve as a backup to the HSES Manager when he/she is on vacation or on another off-site work assignment
  5. Work with the highest ethical standard for legal compliance and demonstrate a true passion for employee safety. 
  6. Complete special projects assigned by the Director of HSES.
  7. Assist departments including maintenance, production and engineering in the design selection and installation of security systems at the plant level.  Work with Lubrizol corporate security teams in the management of security programs with Chemtool sites including those involving DHS. 
  8. Train employees on HSES topics as part of new employee training orientation and recurrent training.
  9. Assist the HR department in the orderly dismissal of employees who have been terminated by the company by escorting employees to the facility gate.
  10. Maintain all required HSES program records and legal documents as they are generated by work and assignments required by the position.
  11. Order HSES equipment as needed by the facility.  Manage the two-way radio equipment and communication program at the Rockton site.
  12. Regularly inspect plant for unsafe conditions as they relate to equipment, process, and facility. 
  13. Actively support the plant management team to develop corrective actions for identified risks.  Track corrective actions to completion in accordance with the facility corrective action tracking program. 
  14. Professionally train, counsel and advise personnel on all identified security and safety risks, and establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment for every one at the plant.
  15. Conduct new employee HSES orientations.  Lead and oversee the monthly HSES training program.
  16. Actively participate as a facilitator and mentor to Safety Committee sub committees, 5 why investigation teams and emergency response teams.
  17. Immediately report all serious HSES incidents to the Director of HSES.
  18. In cooperation with area leads, supervisors and managers support the investigations of all security events, injuries, environmental releases property damage events and serious near misses. 
  19. Immediately report all injuries, environmental releases and serious near misses to the Plant Manager. 
  20. Actively participate in all safety activities taking place at the facility including capital projects, safety observations, inspections, training, audits, and incident investigations.



1.   Remain current in field of HSES as it relates to laws, best practices, Security, and HSES equipment. 

  1. Attend and participate in Chemtool HSES Staff Meetings.
  2. Assist with plant audits as needed.
  3. Perform special projects and other responsibilities as needed.


Education / Certification


  • Associates Degree in Occupational Safety or Health, Environmental Sciences, Security, or related field. 
  • Working knowledge of Security, OSHA, EPA and IEPA regulations.


Experience and Skills


3-5 years work experience in a manufacturing setting working with health, safety, environmental and security programs. Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Strong knowledge of computer software applications. 


Exposure to laboratory and chemical manufacturing environments.  Subject to noise, odor, dust and vapor discharge from production process. Must be able to climb stairs and fixed ladders up to 20 feet.  Requires the ability to wear PPE including hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes.


Supervisory Responsibility and Reporting:


This position has no supervisory responsibility.
