The Chemistry Technician is responsible for all facets of testing from sample preparation to reporting of results. The majority of the workday is spent in a laboratory setting working with new and used oils, solvents, chemicals and equipment utilized to complete testing. This person is responsible for ensuring safety, good housekeeping practices, lab purchasing, equipment maintenance during daily operations. Also, She/he is responsible the annual calibration of equipment, annual lab audit, lab type II – III chemicals and lab waste disposal coordination and work.



  • Operate and maintain key pieces of test equipment for the strategic research innovation refrigeration oil group including: miscibility, and sealed glass tube stability test.
  • Operate and maintain standard lubricant laboratory test equipment, including: viscometers, pour point, flash point, total acid number (TAN), water, dielectric strength, density, color, etc.
  • Operate and maintain analytic lab equipment.
  • Enter and upload test data into Lubrizol internal system. Understand and perform testing calculations; ability to identify and resolve incorrect calculations and process the calculations manually if necessary. Recognize data inconsistencies before uploading.
  • Recognize validity of test data. Notify supervisor regarding non-conformances and be able to identify root causes of inconsistent test data. Perform routine troubleshooting and repair on tests and equipment.
  • Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules to customers. Run multiple tests at a time.
  • Facilitate sample flow between work area and other areas in the department. Communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Articulate and communicate testing issues to co-worker, supervisor, and customer. Provide timely status updates. Work with customers on special requests. Follow-up on customer questions or concerns.
  • Follow HSES procedures of laboratory to operate in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining good housekeeping practices in the work area. Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfil safety requirements.
  • Actively get involved with contributions to safety, housekeeping, environmental and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for the lab safety documents and activities.
  • Lab daily purchasing, PR application and arrival stuff recording.
  • Coordination of the annual equipment calibration, waste disposal, type 2-3 chemical purchasing and annual report and annual lab audit.


Skills and Competencies Requirements:

  • B.S. in Chemistry required and 2-5 years of chemistry lab experience (lubricant and/or analysis experience preferred)
  • Strong safety sense. Lab management experience is preferred
  • Language - Fluent in English both written and verbal
  • Physical - Blend lubricants with additives and ensure the final formulations are within their designed specification
