Application Analyst Sr – Performance Coatings (Solvent and water-based coatings - Hyperdispersant Technologies)
Location: Paulínia, SP
Job Mission
The Analyst will strengthen our technical expertise in hyperdispersant technologies for solvent and water-based coatings, with a deep focus on pigment dispersion, stabilization mechanisms, and compatibility across a wide range of binder systems and solvents. This role requires close collaboration with the technology teams to test, validate, and enhance new and existing hyperdispersants, ensuring optimized color development, stability, and application performance for customers.
The main responsibility is to provide advanced application support to sales teams and key customers.
Key Job Accountabilities
- Take a leadership role in the application of solvent and water-based hyperdispersants across automotive, industrial, ink, protective, wood and coatings markets.
- Execute short-, medium-, and long‑term application projects focused on improving pigment dispersion, stability, milling efficiency, and formulation robustness.
- Evaluate and test new hyperdispersant chemistries, generating results, recommendations, and working closely with synthesis teams on development projects.
- Participate in defining project scope and ensure that key milestones for dispersion and application assessments are achieved on time.
- Lead and support technical training sessions for customers, distributors, and internal staff, including pigment dispersion fundamentals and best practices.
- Develop and validate dispersion and characterization methods, such as grind evaluations, viscosity profiling, color strength, flocculation resistance, and compatibility testing, while ensuring proper documentation.
- Create analyze data, create reports for internal and external presentations
- Communicate test results, risks, and opportunities clearly to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Mentor lab interns and junior technical staff in dispersion science, milling techniques, and testing methodologies.
- Engage actively with cross-functional teams to align hyperdispersant development with marketing and business strategies.
- Provide technical support to the sales team during customer meetings, trials, and troubleshooting activities.
- Represent the company in technical committees and industry associations related to dispersants, pigments, and coatings technologies.
- Support investigations into customer complaints involving dispersion instability, color variability, or processing issues, driving fast and effective resolution.
- Uphold strong safety practices and participate in safety programs within the laboratory environment.
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, or related fields.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in pigment dispersion and knowledge of paint/coating formulations or related coatings technologies.
- Advanced English proficiency.
- Strong ability to develop and implement dispersion characterization methods and interpret mechanistic results.
- Experience using statistical tools (DOE, modeling) to optimize dispersant selection, loading levels, and pigment wetting/dispersing efficiency.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Familiarity with dispersion and application equipment such as high-speed dispersers, bead mills, three-roll mills, spray guns, film applicators, and curing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple formulation projects simultaneously.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, collaborative, and results-oriented.
- Willingness to travel (~10%) for customer support and evaluation trials.
Considered a Plus
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.).
- Experience with hyperdispersants in automotive, wood, inks, protective, or high‑performance industrial coatings.
- Experience developing or using high-throughput or automated dispersion and testing systems.
