Shutdown Engineer

Job Summary:

Shutdown Engineer is accountable for the continuous improvement of shutdown planning and execution process. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and ensure that all shutdown activities and work orders are implemented in an effective manner and in compliance with Lubrizol’s quality, health, environmental and safety practices, and procedures.
  • Promote a positive and professional work environment for department coworkers.
  • During shutdown execution, identify and communicate any deviations from plan and develop strategies to counter or capitalize on them.
  • Ensure that all work problems, issues, and disputes that might arise during the execution of shutdowns are effectively resolved in coordination with all concerned parties.
  • Develop shutdowns’ critical path, activity logic, estimated budget and expected outcomes.
  • Coordinate pre-shutdown activities such as material procurement, kitting, and resource scheduling.
  • Drive continuous improvement of all shutdown activities.
  • Prepare shutdown annual budgets, cost projections and budget proposals and report the same to Planning Supervisor and Maintenance Services Manager for review and approval.
  • Ensure that shutdown processes and procedures are properly followed, coordinating with all concerned parties to ensure that required resources are available and ready to execute the work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Planning Supervisor.

 

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of Lubrizol experience or minimum 8 years of experience in major chemical plant shutdown planning/operations, of which at least 4 years in a similar position. 
  • Solid computer skills. (Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project)
  • Minimum 2 years of leading cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment.

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management as it applies to shutdown planning.
  • Experience with SAP maintenance and planning functionality.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing practices such as Continuous Improvement, Core Problem Solving, and Leader Standard Work.
  • Project planning/scheduling training – with focus on identifying critical path.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be willing/able to work in a plant environment and occasionally outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Willing/able to work off hours/weekends, as required.
