Packaging & Receiving Superintendent

 

Summary:

  • The Packaging & Receiving Superintendent has overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of packaging building as well as the packaged goods receiving team. The Superintendent is responsible for the safe and environmentally responsible operation of packaging and receiving operations, striving for continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. The Superintendent provides leadership, coaching, support, and direction to department staff as the team strives to deliver superior services for Manufacturing and other key stakeholders.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the entirety of his/her organization embraces the vision of the Painesville plant and the corporation, setting clear expectations and ensuring goals are met.
  • Provide strategic leadership, ensuring that all the information required to achieve the plant, department, and area goals is available to and understood by all involved.
  • Promote and support the area’s efforts to achieve excellence in environmental, health, safety, and security performance, providing visible safety leadership and taking corrective and preventive action as appropriate. Ensure that an efficient, safe, and clean environment is maintained.
  • Fill the assigned role during emergencies at the Emergency Control Center.
  • Monitor, encourage and assist in the development of direct reports. 
  • Maintain a positive work environment/culture that promotes efficiency, effectiveness and high morale while ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Maintain consistency across all shifts and buildings.
  • Work in conjunction with Manufacturing sections and other departments to ensure that packaging and receiving functions are conducted in the most efficient manner and that commitments are met.
  • Continuously monitor building operations to identify shortfalls and work to address them. 
  • Apply technical and analytical abilities to solve problems as they arise and prevent them before they occur. 
  • Review the annual plan, trajectory, and other information from Corporate Operations and the various business segments, working with other departments as necessary to ensure the plant’s readiness to meet future production needs.
  • Provide necessary support for non-routine tasks, shutdowns, and upset conditions, including outside of normal working hours.
  • Develop and manage the area’s budget, monitoring, evaluating, and controlling area expenses throughout the year.
  • Foster a Continuous Improvement mindset, ensuring the team is identifying and eliminating waste on a daily cadence.
  • Position the group to take on duties that may exist within the manufacturing operator ranks that can be moved to Operations Support as part of the Line Back movement at the Painesville site.
  • Work closely with Lubrizol’s onsite Shipping contractor, Ryder, to ensure Painesville exceeds customer expectations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a plant / manufacturing environment
  • Application of statistical techniques and software for data analysis and interpretation of data
  • Experience with SAP or other enterprise business software
  • Effective interpersonal skills in a variety of settings

 

Considered A Plus:

  • Previous management experience
  • Experience as a Process Engineer or in a role supporting manufacturing technology
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations
  • Project management experience
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Management from accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of Lubrizol Additives business
  • LEAN expertise and hands on experience applying LEAN tools/methodology

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be willing/able to work in a plant environment.
  • Work is performed within a controlled environment; noise levels in some areas require hearing protection.
  • Must be willing/able to be exposed to inclement weather while moving throughout the plant during the workday as required.
  • Expected to wear all required PPE.
