Maintenance Services Supervisor



The Maintenance Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising skilled trades employees in support of production processes at the Painesville Plant. The maintenance supervisor oversees the work of the maintenance team to ensure safe and efficient operation of the plants mechanical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing Personnel:
    • Communicate and administer the plant safety and environmental programs and goals. Monitor awareness, attitudes, and results.
    • Direct the work assignments and training of all personnel assigned to the department.
    • Monitor productivity, motivating personnel to improve productivity as needed.
    • Review each employee's work performance at regular intervals.
    • Communicate the problems and needs of the departments' personnel to the Maintenance Services Manager.
    • Schedule maintenance work with Production to provide the most cost efficient service.
    • Coordinate between Maintenance and Production personnel.
    • Communicate and administer company and plant policies, plans and priorities.
  • Managing Materials
    • Operate in a safe and environmentally clean manner.
    • Monitor quality and availability of equipment and services provided.
    • Monitor and control replacement parts utilization for all equipment.  Achieve minimum replacement parts usage.  Recommend equipment and/or procedure changes to achieve improvements in equipment reliability.
    • Perform troubleshooting functions in any problem areas and recommend equipment and/or procedure changes where applicable.
  • Managing Equipment
    • Ascertain that all production equipment is maintained at a level such that it can and is operated in a safe and environmentally clean manner.
    • Recommend maintenance or training to permit equipment to be operated at rated capacity and at optimum efficiency.
    • Recommend equipment or procedure changes to eliminate system bottlenecks or to improve productivity and equipment reliability.
    • Monitor new equipment installation as to serviceability.
    • Review new projects for possible problems from an operational and serviceability view point.
    • Share responsibility for spare parts on new and existing installations with Maintenance Services Manager.
  • General Administration:
    • Work with Maintenance Services Manager to define departmental goals and generate a long range plan around people, materials, equipment and costs.
    • Plan, negotiate, and implement Preventive Maintenance schedules.
    • Monitor monthly expenditures compared to budget.
    • Coordinate maintenance activities, and other related functions for the department.
    • Communicate operational status, department needs, problems, opportunities and priority status updates to Manager. 
    • Recommend and manage small projects as needed.
    • Support / Advocate for continuous improvement / problem solving activities – ie 5S, core problem solving, root cause analysis
    • Additional duties as assigned.


Skill, Qualifications, Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Minimum (5) years of maintenance or construction experience.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanics, pipe fitting, metal fabrication, welding, lubrication, rotating equipment, compressors, shop tools and precision machine tools.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills; displays professionalism; experience with conflict resolution.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • High energy; positive attitude.
  • Dependable, honest and trustworthy.
  • Microsoft Office experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.


Considered A Plus:

  • Degree from accredited college or university.
  • Previous experience supervising employees.
  • SAP Experience.


Working Conditions:

  • Willing/able to work off hours/weekends, call-ins as required.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Work around chemicals, nuisance odors, and noise from operating areas.
  • Work on ladders, lifts, pipe racks, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Must be willing/able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
