Mechanical Testing Engineering Lab Leader - Refrigeration

 

 

This position will work closely with the CPI Compressor business segment teams and technical product development team to understand industry and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) product approval and performance differentiation needs and ensure that Mechanical Testing activities and resources are appropriately deployed to support the needs of the business segment.  This includes leading and managing the CPI mechanical testing lab operating team, coordination of work from internal and external service groups. The Engineering Lab Leader will lead the development of novel test methods to demonstrate lubricant performance in refrigeration compressors and systems for application areas ranging from fractional horsepower to large industrial applications, interpretation of test results, and technical presentations to OEMs, industry forums, and internal colleagues. This position will report to the Global Director of Research and Development.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensure that projects are aligned with business goals and there are agreed-upon milestones, dates, and accountability
  • Develop/deploy in-depth knowledge of refrigeration compressor and system test methods for lubricant product development and new lubricant product differentiation
  • Interact with CPI Compressor business segment technical and commercial teams to develop testing strategies which best support business growth objectives and key OEM objectives
  • Apply engineering skills and knowledge in the development of state-of-the-art test methodology and procedures
  • Review project performance at milestones and ensure accountability to deliver on project commitments
  • Apply financial knowledge and methods to evaluate testing opportunities and strategies to support the business while maximizing utilization of testing assets and return on capital investments
  • Leverage trends in customer industries/marketplaces to shape solutions and approaches for our OEM customers
  • Support processes that ensure operating flexibility in response to customer demands
  • Interact with laboratory operations, data acquisition and control, and other internal and external resources.  Effectively coordinate these resources to ensure optimum test performance (cost, quality and linkage to business objectives)
  • Review project progress, issues, roadblocks and success with product development teams on a regular basis

 

 

 

 


SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • BS Degree in Mechanical engineering
  • General knowledge of refrigeration systems and the OEMs that build these systems
  • Mechanical aptitude for design and fabrication of test equipment
  • Computer skills including: LabView, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and various engineering programs related to equipment operation
  • Ability to conduct critical data analysis and provide conclusions and/or recommendations for improvement in the testing area 
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and internal/external customers
  • Provide clear, concise and timely reports reviewing the pertinent details, status and results of all test activities
  • Keep stakeholders aware of all information and issues
  • Manage test area in a financially responsible manner by balancing expenses against revenues and by determining return on investments
  • Possess a demonstrated track record of good customer focus, solid communications skills, adaptability and ability to work in a team environment
  • Respond resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities and obstacles
  • Benchmark/collaborate with other internal and external technical experts to develop best practices and/or new capabilities
  • Ability to present a compelling case for ideas and initiatives that advance the business strategy
  • Demonstrate high energy level and enthusiasm
  • Possess a strong work ethic and be willing to “go the extra mile”
  • Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally
  • Ability to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to fulfill safety requirements

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS:

 

  • MS Degree in Mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of three years of engineering testing experience in refrigeration compressors, systems or related areas
