Role:

Position will provide process engineering support for the daily operations of the three Temprite™ compound manufacturing lines at the Louisville site.  Primary contribution of the role is focused on continually improving the production process encompassing all aspects of HS&E, quality, operating costs and customer service level.  The position reports directly to the Site Process Improvement Leader.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and optimizes process capabilities for existing products and production processes (quality, cycle times, costs, etc.). 
    • Monitors product quality and process capability on a frequent and periodic basis. 
    • Recommends procedural changes, standardization, equipment modifications or recipe adjustments as needed to improve product quality and process efficiency. 
    • Maintains operating procedures and provide training for process operators.
    • Participates in daily MDI meetings for the Compounding Department. 
  • Provides process troubleshooting and technical directions to manufacturing – may involve interaction outside normal business hours as plant runs 24/7.
  • Provides technical guidance to maintain and improve HS&E performance in the plants.
  • Identifies, develops project scope and provides justification for capital expenditures in support of business objectives or cost justified process modifications. 
  • Serves as the liaison between manufacturing and R&D during the development/scale-up of new products/processes.  Coordinates manufacturing efforts during process and product development.  Monitors and maximizes process capability during scale-up operations. 
  • Uses and maintains systems associated with the Quality Management System, Process Safety Management, RCMS, etc. as directed. 
     
    Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:
  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering with 5 or more years of chemical manufacturing experience. 
  • Strong process engineering skills, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and process improvement. 
  • Strong data management and organization skills; proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate clearly and listen attentively with personnel at all levels of the organization, both with internal and external parties.  Must be a team player, flexible, innovative, and capable of a total system thinking mindset beyond the restricted scope and influence of the role. 
  • Background in statistical process control and statistical techniques. 
  • Limited travel for training/meetings and customer/supplier visits may be required. 
     
    Considered a Plus:
  • Knowledge of SAP transactions and purpose.
  • Solids handling experience.
  • Experience with PSM regulations and compliance.
  • Safety management experience.
  • Experience with ABB DCS and PI Process Book data collection software.
