La Porte TPU Instrument Technician

 

About TPU Maintenance    
The La Porte TPU plant is supported by the maintenance department which provides equipment repair services along with preventative maintenance.  The maintenance department and its employees are located onsite.  When additional needs arise, they can be assigned to the other plants in the area for short durations.  The maintenance workshop is located in the L-98 building.  Typical coverage for maintenance technicians is Monday through Friday days with a 4-10 work schedule.  This can be changed as business needs change.  On call coverage is required.  Overtime is expected and required.

General Profile    
The individual filling this role is responsible for providing first-line support to the production plant for maintenance on all electronic and pneumatic instruments.  This includes calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs of all instrumentation and related equipment.  The Instrument Technician reports to the Maintenance Foreman.

 

Responsibilities    
•    Execute work orders related to repairing, maintaining, and calibrating meters, monitors, transmitters, flow meters, level devices, switches, alarms, PLC’s, transducers, regulators, control valves, automatic valves, actuators, and solenoid valves.
•    Read and understand documents such as manuals, loop sheets, P&ID diagrams, and ladder logic.
•    Tear down and repair/rebuild regulators, control valves, and actuators of all sizes.
•    Perform loop checking in order to verify that all the connected components are working properly or to determine if repairs are needed and to update drawings as needed.
•    Replace any malfunctioning or broken instrumentation and to select appropriate replacement from the warehouse or work to order one.
•    Work with equipment vendors to optimize and replace instrumentation. 
•    Work with other maintenance craftsmen to prepare equipment and troubleshoot problems.
•    Perform routine preventive maintenance on instruments and controls to increase the reliability of the manufacturing operation.
•    Performing and documenting plant-wide inspections, preventive maintenance and maintaining equipment files.
•    Support engineering during capital project installation of instrumentation and electrical equipment.
•    Ensure proper documentation and procedures are followed. 
•    Adhere to safe work practices that include hot work, confined space, lock-out/tag-out, and line breaking.
•    Follow all plant safety, security, and ethics rules.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

•    A high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.  
•    At least 3 years’ experience as an instrument technician.
•    Preferred experience in a chemical plant.
•    Ability to work as a part of a team.
•    Knowledge of other maintenance craft disciplines.
•    Willingness to take maintenance call outs.
•    Preferred experience with SAP in the maintenance area.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn SAP.
