Lubrizol has an exciting opportunity for a Level 6 Network Engineer Degree apprentice in our Global Networking Team, providing Network Support to sites globally.

About the role


Network engineers are responsible for building and maintaining the day-to-day operation of computer networks that companies and organizations rely on. At Lubrizol, these areas include Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Network Security and Core Networking.

The Network Engineer utilizes strong technical and communication skills to work with global members of the functional teams as well as business stakeholders; effective communication is a must. This role requires the ability to analyse, troubleshoot, strategize, improvise, think externally, and implement a vast array of solutions that simultaneously align with Lubrizol’s best practices and satisfy the user base.


Key responsibilities


  • Investigating faults in the network
  • Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases
  • Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximise network efficiency and security
  • Maximising network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Arranging scheduled upgrades
  • Maintain documentation for solution design and procedural work instructions
  • Reporting network status to key stakeholders
  • Installing, configuring and supporting network technology including Routers, Switches, Wireless, Load Balancers, DNS, DHCP, Firewall
  • Involved in designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks


About the programme


During the programme, you will be working in a supportive, diverse and ever-changing environment. You will gain valuable experience working on production enterprise grade technologies, whether it is fixing issues or implementation alongside members of our global network team who will support both your technical and soft skills development.

You’ll also be studying in class or virtually at Warwick University, working towards your BSc Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Network Engineer), studying topics such as Network Protocols and Infrastructure, Network Routing and Switching Technologies, and Network Security.

You will require GCSE Maths and English at level 5 (C) or above and have or be predicted a grade C or above in Maths A level plus one further Science, Engineering or Technology subject (e.g. A Level or equivalent).

Hazelwood is a small village in Derbyshire at the lower end of the Pennines, located around 8 miles from Derby city centre. Derby has extensive transport links with other areas of the country, the M1 motorway passes about 10 miles to the east of the city, linking Derby southwards to the London area and northwards to Sheffield and Leeds. Most of our students choose to live in the city centre which is where you will find Intu Derby – the vibrant hub of retail, leisure and dining facilities. The leisure complex is home to Showcase Cinema de Lux, Hollywood Bowl and Paradise Island Adventure Golf as well as a wide range of eateries and some of the world’s biggest brands. Another popular place in Derby city centre with the students is the Cathedral Quarter which is home to fantastic independent shops, a bustling market and abundance of excellent bars, cafes, restaurants and entertainment! There are plenty of events happening in the quarter all year round! A large student population means that the city centre is a lively and vibrant place to be.
