Lubrizol is a global speciality chemical company with the European R&D centre being located in the picturesque setting of Hazelwood, Derbyshire. As a technology leading company, we specialise in providing market driven solutions to Customers, to help them be successful. The focus of the site is predominantly on the automotive industry and the fluids needed in vehicles. However, with the changes in legislation and increasing consumer choices, we continue to look at expanding areas of opportunity where we can leverage our technical expertise.

 

The successful candidate will provide support to the Hazelwood site in the preparation, application and submission of funding applications to help deliver additional scientific research. In this role you will be working with the strong scientific community on site, evaluating and recommending funding opportunities that exist and that could accelerate our research. Working with a wide-ranging mix of Research and Development scientists, Technology managers and senior business managers to deliver on this activity. An awareness of the various scientific funding bodies that exist and having a scientific degree qualification are necessities.

 

Working on every element of the bid writing process, we require someone with the ability to produce and compile bespoke, high quality funding submissions that meet the expected requirements. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong creative writing and verbal presentation skills with experience of producing submissions that sell the benefit of the funding to the approval bodies.

 

Main Duties and responsibilities:

 

  • To lead the funding applications across the site, building a strategy for future applications, with consideration for likely success and impact.
  • To interact with R&D personnel, Technology managers and senior business leaders to understand the different types of research that exist on the site.
  • Produce documentation and responses that demonstrate a sound understanding and technical knowledge of our sector.
  • To make suggestions of appropriate funding schemes that would help accelerate our research.
  • To possess a good knowledge of the various funding schemes in the UK and Europe and advocate for the use of appropriate schemes as necessary.
  • Produce professionally written bid and proposal content that clearly articulates the company’s values and the benefits of our proposals.
  • Leading and actively participating in the development of strategic themes, including interactions with external facilities, such as Catapult centres.

 

Key Skills / Experience

 

  • Degree qualification (2:1 or better) in a physical science (chemistry, physics, maths or engineering).
  • Previous experience in authoring successful funding applications is essential.
  • Ability to clearly articulate themes and write in a concise and convincing manner.
  • Ability to transform technical information into positive and engaging responses.
  • High level of interpersonal and teamworking skills and ability to engage, motivate and influence others.
  • Excellent grasp of the English language with a high level of writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Diligent with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Creative eye with the ability to prepare and format visually strong documents from scratch.
  • Experience of working with Catapults is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with funding submissions to Innovate UK, KTN, EPSRC and European funding bodies.
