Role: Automotive Test Engineering Student Placement


The Automotive Test Engineering role sits within the Mechanical Testing department at Lubrizol. You will be part of a skilled, professional team made up of technicians, component raters, control specialists, test support and test engineers. You will use your engineering knowledge, creativity and problem solving skills to provide a high quality testing service which is vital to the successful development of fluid technologies within the following areas:

  • Engine Lubricants
  • Automotive and Industrial Driveline lubricants
  • Fuel Additives

What you will be doing

  • Developing, implementing and performing tests on automotive and other equipment- primarily engines and transmissions
  • Helping to perform industry standard tests as well as aiding the development of bespoke research tests on a variety of hardware from leading vehicle manufacturers
  • Interacting within your department, commercial areas and research groups
  • Performing data analysis and presenting your findings of these tests
  • Operating a combination of systems relevant to the tests you are working on
  • Developing skills in project management


What you will need

  • Studying towards an Automotive or Mechanical Engineering related degree involving a year in industry, achieving a 2:1 or above
  • Achieved a grade C or above in A Level Math or Physics
  • Having studied a module on engine fundamentals is preferable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office
  • A keen interest in engineering, knowledge of engines (SI and CI) would be useful but not essential
  • Will need to be self-motivated and driven to lead projects to timely completion
