We currently have a challenging and rewarding position for a Safety and Health Specialist at our Deer Park, Texas facility.

 

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Support the development, implementation and assessment of the Texas Plants’ safety management systems. Activities include, but are not limited to: the assessment of plant health & safety needs; development of practical, effective solutions to those needs; aiding the implementation of solutions (including training) and assessing the effectiveness of the solutions.
  • Implement and monitor company industrial hygiene (IH) programs and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct field surveys, evaluations, and audits to identify and evaluate potential occupational health hazards using knowledge of OSHA compliance and IH principles.
  • Develop technical reports to document the evaluation of workplace hazards and mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate hazards.
  • Research and summarize federal safety regulations and consensus industry standards. Conduct and prepare regulatory applicability studies as needed.
  • Conduct HSE benchmarking as needed; internal and external to identify best practices.
  • Participate and/or lead HSE projects to support best practices.
  • Provide guidance related to health and safety issues. Interact and work with the production, maintenance and engineering departments to provide technical support related to regulatory compliance and the development of practical solutions related to safety, industrial hygiene, training, fire protection emergency management, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop and deliver health & safety-related training programs that may include respiratory protection, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, hearing conservation, and general chemical hazards. Support employee involvement in safety initiatives that may include being a contact for plant safety teams and attending safety team meetings as needed and participate in incident investigations.
  • Participate in a rotating HSE on-call schedule with the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related field considered a plus.
  • Required minimum of five years of work in a chemical, manufacturing or oil refining environment.
  • Demonstrated proactive and responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors and the public.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local safety and health regulations.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and guidelines including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and NIOSH, DOT, FRA
  • Team oriented, flexible and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products, primarily the use of word processing, EHS database applications, presentation and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to analyze multi-faceted situations/problems/concepts along with the capacity to venture beyond core competencies.
  • Ability to give clear direction and support to client groups to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to climb, stand for extended periods time, bending and can lift up to 75lbs. In addition to this, must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment to include but not limited to: Hard hat, safety shoes, protective clothing, safety harness and respiratory protection (as required).

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS

  • ASP or CSP certification
  • SAP knowledge
  • Other Safety/Industry – Related Certifications
  • Construction or capital projects experience
