Summary of Responsibilities:

Looking for an ideal team player who will be responsible for representing Lubrizol to internal stakeholders and external suppliers, facilitating the procurement of indirect industrial packaging with the goal of maintaining/improving product quality and supplier service levels as well as achieving significant cost reductions. Typical categories of industrial packaging include drums, pallets, totes (IBC), bulk bags, corrugate etc. In addition, this individual will be responsible for ensuring that relationships between the company and vendors are maintained to the satisfaction of all parties. The position reports to the Indirect Procurement Manager – Deer Park. 



Perform assignments related to the procurement of industrial packaging including but not limited to negotiation and implementation of national or regional agreements, determine sole source or supplier mix and incorporate strategies to maximize Lubrizol’s purchasing leverage.  The individual shall work within the framework of multiple disciplinary teams to deliver an optimized solution from the cost, total cost of ownership and risk standpoint to corporate headquarters, business segments, the manufacturing plants and project engineering team.


Primary activities include:

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and vendors to meet organizational needs
  • Support compliance of all corporate policies and regional/local Health, Safety, Environmental and Security practices.
  • Works with manufacturing areas to identify packaging improvement opportunities to drive cost savings or performance improvement.
  • Works with various organizations to establish new or modified packaging to support new products or new business requiring modified packaging.
  • Develops and refines packaging specifications.  Has familiarity with Pallet Design, Mixed Load Requests, and Blocking & Bracing best practices.  Is a consulting resource for design and commercial needs across all businesses and global sites.   
  • Investigates complaints that are potentially connected to packaging deficiencies.
  • Conducts assessments and audits to qualify new suppliers or validate existing ones meet expectations (quality systems, certifications, security).
  • Ensures designed packaging complies to all regulatory expectations (performance, labelling) regarding transport of hazardous goods.
  • Provides market insights to the commercial teams around supply, demand, forecast, and pricing trends in material markets.
  • Own knowledge of market and provide update to commercial teams to support decision making.
  • Conduct supplier selection and negotiation process.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for key spend categories.
  • Track performance within each spend category and define impact.
  • Monitor strategy implementation and contract compliance.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement category strategies.


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

  • 4-year college degree from an accredited institution in related field (supply chain, finance, economics, engineering, or other technical discipline).
  • Five plus years in related indirect procurement experience
  • Ability to manage full sourcing projects and experience in leading and managing RFP process.
  • Ability to work in a Matrixed organization  
  • SAP and Ariba experience preferred
  • Strong purchasing knowledge and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to relate well with individuals at various levels, inside and outside of the organization.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
