Position Summary

The LEVEL I Extrusion Technician is responsible for carrying out the production of medical grade extruded tubing in a safe and proper manner helping to improve quality, reduce scrap to meet all task and cycle time requirements. These primary responsibilities of the Extrusion Technician are firmly based in the manufacture of tubing to customer given specifications - which will differ from customer to customer, part to part and by material – LEVEL I Concentrations; The Extrusion Technician will learn and be expected to grasp the application of lean tools, investigation / problem solving techniques together with scientific plastics processing philosophies utilized for;  gaining / recording efficiencies, capturing process improvement ideas, sustaining 5S, value stream commitments, Kanban attainments, and 3P / SMED production preparation strategies to ensure continuous flow of quality products to expected schedule and or the specific task at hand.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work Safely with Hot Plastic, Plastics Machinery and Automation
  • Express safety ideas, thoughts, and concerns verbally or in a written form
  • Adhere to all cGMP /GDP Standards, Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Collect Product - By spool, rack, table length or bagging product if cut in line
  • Work 12 hours (with applicable breaks) standing in a clean room environment
  • Execute all tasks with no damage to equipment, tooling or automation
  • Proper cleaning, set up, assembly / clean out of extrusion work cells
  • Restock supplies for next shift
  • Communicate information to next technician taking over line at shift change effectively
  • Complete basic line clearance with no support (no functional testing) in addition to maintaining paperwork correctly throughout run (extrusion run sheet, checklist, in-process inspection sheet, and clock paperwork)
  • Verify and confirm all routers and work order instructions before and during production, maintain all paperwork properly (with support of QC -Suprvr)
  • Run material moisture test as required
  • Support and observe 5S and other lean manufacturing methodologies
  • Use SMED pre-assemblies
  • Use of basic hand / power tools, plastics equipment tools- supplies (snap gauge, tank distance gauge, caliper, torque wrench, allen wrenches, brass – implements, proper use of propane torches and polishing wheels)
  • Set up single lumen/single layer extrusion jobs, verifying correct inspection method, tool and dies are used per the work order and customer drawing with support from a Level III or higher
  • Set up Zumbach system for measuring the extrusion profile as produced
  • Debugging and modifying of process as required with support from a Level III, Level I, II Technician or Engineer
  • Cut and measure product on MicroVu system
  • Use pin gauges, snap gauges, or other tools for measuring product
  • Document process parameters
  • Extrusion of tubing to desired specifications to expected schedule
  • Remove material from a dryer after production run completed, clean dryer and weigh / document material
  • Work ethically and respects those around them to create a positive, supportive working environment
  • Observe and promote Company standards and policies on safety, quality and productivity


  • Successful completion of high school, GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience as an operator, or manufacturing associate.
  • Mechanical, machine operating or extrusion experience (preferred)
  • Excellent (written and verbal) communication, human interaction skills
  • Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
  • Able to convert units of measurement, add, subtract multiplication and division
  • Can do attitude, respectful, works ethically, creates supportive environment
  • Can work with any measurement system / equipment / various techniques

Physical Demands

  • This physical demand level for this job is considered light with frequently lifting up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposure to lifting more than 50 pounds is rare (if ever)
  • During Extrusion Technician work, employee will constantly be exposed to dynamic standing/walking and use of hands to finger/handle or touch.  The employee will occasionally be exposed static standing/sitting, to pushing/pulling (up to 25 lbs of force), floor to knuckle lift/lower (up to 25lbs), knuckle to shoulder lift/lower (up to 25 lbs), shoulder to overhead lift/lower, climb/balance (on stairs/ladder), stoop, kneel, crouch/crawl, reach above shoulders and repetitive bending or squatting with rare (if ever) exposure to sustained bending or use foot/feet to operate machine
  • The following vision requirements apply: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus









The Lubrizol Corona site is located in the golden state. Corona is located in Southern California where the beaches are less than 30 miles away. You can take a 20 minute drive to the Happiest Place on Earth- Disneyland and see their beloved firework show at 9:00pm every night. Corona is a 45 minute drive to Los Angeles, the entertainment capital in the world. The City of Los Angeles is home of the new Los Angeles Rams who have shaken up and created new excitement for the locals. This city is diverse with many different cultures and restaurants. Summer starts off with many different music festivals such as: Coachella, Snowglobe, Stagecoach and so much more. Vegas is less than 4 hours away and an easy drive for a weekend getaway.
