Position Summary

The Purchasing Agent / Production Scheduler position works closely with the Warehouse, Production, Customer Service, and Supply Chain functions to ensure that adequate product inventories are maintained through proper production planning and disciplined manufacturing schedules.  Because of the size of the Clifton plant, the Purchasing Agent / Production Scheduler must fulfill several roles.  This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.



Essential Responsibilities

  • Determines products to be manufactured and establishes the production schedule.  Monitors production execution versus schedule and coordinates with Plant Manager on production priorities, schedule conflicts, rejected / non-conforming batches, and schedule revisions.
  • Coordinates with Customer Service and Supply Chain functions to establishes safety stock levels.  Monitors slow moving and non-working (NWSM) inventories by reworking and blending as production schedule permits.
  • Confirms pricing and purchases all raw materials that are required to support the production schedule.  Maintains inventory levels of totes, filter pads, and other operating supplies that are critical for the plant.  Additionally performs purchasing function for office supplies, general plant equipment and supplies.
  • Investigates alternate suppliers and alternate versions (i.e. bulk purchase vs. solid flake or granulated vs. powder) for raw materials.
  • Establishes shipping requirements with suppliers regarding tank truck equipment, labeling, pallets, type and size of containers, and delivery times.  Coordinates deliveries of raw materials with Warehouse Manager.
  • Represents the Clifton plant with quality and service issues involving raw materials and suppliers.  Maintains service / quality records for all raw material suppliers.  Ensures that applicable suppliers meet RSPO requirements.
  • Enters purchase orders, process orders and various production transactions within SAP / S4 production operating system.
  • Reconciles completed batch sheets and enters raw material consumptions, final product yields, processing times, and container usage into SAP.  Reviews batch data in SAP monthly for variance data.
  • Supports the Plant Manager on HSE&S related responsibilities (i.e. inspections, training, reporting, and permit issuance) and special projects.
  • Performs back-up role to the Warehouse Manager and Plant Manager.



Qualifications & Experience

  • Five (5) years’ experience in manufacturing or production planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Business preferred
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous experience with SAP, preferred
  • Basic math and computer skills necessary.  Good verbal and written communication skills.
