Summary

 

The Product Manager responsible for the Grease product lines.  The Product Manager reports to the Director of Strategic Marketing and Product Management.  In cooperation with commercial partners, the Product Manager primarily operates in the 0 to 24-month time horizon to meet business goals, maximize profitability and progress the portfolio.  With deep knowledge of industry dynamics and competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, the Product Manager is well-positioned to drive value. 

 

This role requires commercial acumen, intellectual capability to turn complex technical information into viable commercial solutions, strong project management skills, ability to work with all levels of the organization, and courage to drive and retain value.  

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages assigned product portfolios including:
    • strategic roadmap for the portfolio ensuring that the portfolio continues to progress on a yearly basis
    • monthly volume and price forecasting
    • definition of key features/benefits
    • product selection to match customer requirements
    • product life cycle
  • Provides input for annual plan targets (volume, revenue, margin) for portfolio
  • Drives new offer development focusing on unique value propositions  that are impactful to the end user (e.g., Problem – Solution – Benefit)
  • Develops pricing for new opportunities
  • Collaboratively develops and drives portfolio strategies with key internal stakeholders including sales and trade marketing
  • Coordinates the development of the products in support of product positioning, placement and functionality
  • Clear overview of the product commercialization process and how products are progressing through this process
  • Manages the overall product life cycle for each product/product line
  • Analyzes industry and competitor trends and assessing business impact
  • Defines and communicates pricing targets, including price books/lists.
  • Builds and leverages relationships with other internal divisions and external groups
  • Develops, maintains and presents up-to-date product and trends presentations to internal stakeholders and customers
  • Applies industry knowledge to help customers grow their business and identifies ways they can differentiate themselves
  • Provides product recommendations to account managers and customers
  • Maintains PDS and TDS database to ensure that all information remains current.
  • Performs financial/business reviews of existing accounts to understand complexity and profitability.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of raw material and packaging costing
  • Drive internal customer meetings as necessary.

Education/Certification

 

  • The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing or Business Administration
  • Candidates with Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or engineering related discipline are also desirable  Candidates with an MBA are desirable

 

Experience/Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in combination of Sales, Marketing, or Product Management roles
  • Knowledge of OEM’s, customers, competitors and the global market, as well as an understanding of commercial and marketing skills such as product positioning, strategic and value pricing.
  • Demonstrated track record of effective leadership in past roles across functions and hierarchy
  • Financial acumen and analytical capabilities
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to manage a large number of tasks or projects
  • Capable of independent action; takes initiative
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • High level of proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

 

Supervisory Responsibility and Reporting

  • This position manages the activity set for the Assistant Product Manager (APM) assigned to the PM’s portfolio.
