Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceives and develops innovative new products to Lubrizol business areas.
  • Collaborates with other technical and business functions.
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of structure-property relationships for water-based polymers and adjacent technologies in targeted systems and applications areas.
  • Runs multiple complex projects independently and delivers timely results.
  • Understands scale-up processes and supports scale-up of new products.
  • Supports global technical initiatives and improvement activities.
  • Works jointly with business and technical managers on project management definition, prioritization and planning.
  • Conducts technically in-depth internal and external presentations.
  • Understands and integrates global regulatory requirements in new product development projects
  • Performs all activities safely, and in compliance with all Lubrizol, local, state and federal policies, environmental regulations and laws.


Skills, Qualifications, Experience & Education

  • Advanced degree in Polymer Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and at least 5-10 years’ relevant R&D experience with demonstrated results
  • Track record of successful product and technology innovation with water-based emulsion polymers
  • Experience performing hands-on experimental work
  • Results orientation & high level of initiative
  • Ability to learn and reason independently, but also to work effectively in team settings with non-technical functions
  • Ability to understand and relate complex systems from both a scientific and practical perspective
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills & the ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Strong skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Ability to travel up to 10%


Considered a Plus:

  • PhD in Polymer Science or closely-related field
  • People/team management experience
  • Project/technology management experience
