Summary of Responsibilities

As a member of Measurement Science, you will provide analytical support to Lubrizol Advanced Materials business units by facilitating or leading efforts relating to key knowledge generation, product development, competitive analysis, technical support, and routine testing.  The primary focus of this role will be gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS); however, this scientist will also be expected to deliver results with other analytical chemistry techniques in the department such as liquid chromatography (LC) and LC-MS.

 

Essential Job Functions  

  • Applies knowledge of and leads research efforts in GC and GC-MS to support the development of new products, generates key knowledge, and/or supports business needs
  • Generates, organizes, interprets, and reports data in support of technical projects and service requests
  • Performs hands-on research as well as directs and prioritizes the work of technical staff
  • Proactively seeks understanding of customer needs
  • Communicates and interacts with a broad range of internal and external customers through technical reports, presentations, and 1-on-1 conversations
  • Meaningfully conveys technical information across departments and divisions
  • Drives projects from inception through completion
  • Maintains familiarity with current literature and recent advances in analytical chemistry
  • Integrates new technology for new applications and product support
  • Troubleshoots and maintains test equipment and procedures
  • Participates in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of technical staff
  • Actively participates in Lubrizol safety programs, ensures compliance with safety procedures, and maintains good housekeeping

 

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymer Science, or Materials Science
  • At least 2 years of analytical chemistry lab experience in industry with GC and/or GC-MS
  • Experience writing technical reports of publication quality
  • Demonstrated project management experience including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with colleagues at multiple levels of an organization
  • Self-motivated with ability to handle, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and be able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate scientific curiosity and be results-driven
  • Ability to travel as required (less than 10%)
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office

 

Considered a plus

  • M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, experience with ISO 10993 Extractables and Leachables of polymeric materials, or experience with other analytical chemistry techniques (e.g. LC, MS, FT-IR, ICP and NMR)
