We currently have an opening for a safety-minded and results-oriented Resin Scientist at our facility in Brecksville, Ohio. We’re always told that one of the best things about working at Lubrizol is the people who work here Could you be one of them? 

 

This role will support the TempRite business in the following key areas:

  • Oversee resin characterization and chlorination labs, including maintenance of training records, procedures, and instrument calibrations.  Interpret, document, and communicate analytical results.
  • Provide support to pilot CPVC operations.
  • Ensure excellent personal and process safety, regulatory, and housekeeping performance in laboratory and pilot operations.
  • Actively participate in the management of change process, pre-startup safety reviews, and process hazard analyses, leading them where appropriate.
  • Support business priorities including commercial technical directives for existing and new products. 
  • Support customer and plant resin evaluations in concert with other activities to ensure new material implementations meet necessary quality, processing, material handling and approval body certification requirements.
  • Liaise with plant personnel on quality assurance and related initiatives.  
  • Participate in the capital project process including scope definition, cost estimate request, design review, justification, and start-up.
  • Represent R&D in the Manufacturing Authorization process supporting quality and process change/improvement efforts.
  • Maintain records of experiments, results and conclusions with subsequent reports both mid-term and at project conclusion.
  • Provide updates on project status through regular issuance of written and verbal reports.
  • Ensure effective communication across at all levels of the organization and between key stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety awareness and adherence to safety processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to internal and external customers.
  • Document test data in Excel or Lubrizol internal software, evaluate data to ensure accuracy prior to communicating results.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related scientific field
  • 3+ years of experience in a Research & Development or plant production role
  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving relative to chemistry and chemical engineering principles
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting chemistry and applying towards product properties and applications
  • Experience writing reports, summarizing data and communicating information to internal and external teams/stakeholders
  • Experience participating in capital project teams and influencing stakeholders to accomplish shared goals.
  • Willingness to adhere to all lab safety and personal protective equipment requirements, including use of a respirator as needed.
  • Strong computer skills including, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel as required (less than 10%)

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Polymer Science
  • Knowledge of polymer processing and associated testing and analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis principles
  • Experience in chlorination chemistry, reactions and associated processes
  • Industrial/Manufacturing process experience
