The Estane Process Improvement Engineer drives and advocates continuous improvement initiatives in Estane manufacturing, with an emphasis on initiatives that have a global impact and are leverageable between Estane manufacturing locations. The Process Improvement Engineer is a resource on problem solving and statistical data analysis, helping Estane manufacturing to achieve 6% UOI growth. As a member of the Process Technology group, the Process Improvement Engineer is a member of a diverse team, with members located in multiple regions across the globe, reporting to the Estane PT - Global Process Improvement Manager in Brecksville, Ohio.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

Enable 6% UOI growth by cultivating a culture and commitment to safety excellence while ensuring responsible and disciplined operations within the Estane Global Process Technology, Quality & Improvement team. Scale-up new products at targeted cost, quality, and agreed upon time. Support the plants in critical quality improvements, drive process improvement for existing products and advance process technologies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drives, supports, mentors and trains advanced problem-solving methods and statistical data analysis. Promotes the continuous improvement mindset across the organization globally.
  • Coordinates Design of Experiment (DOE) trials in pilot plant and commercial trials at the manufacturing plants (Manufacturing Authorization).
  • Develops and improves QC lab test methods (MSA, Gage R&R).
  • Organizes data collection and evaluates complex datasets using statistical analysis tools with/without support from Lubrizol statisticians on projects to improve quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Clearly and succinctly presents conclusions and financial impact/benefits to management.
  • Documents and communicates to facilitate knowledge transfer and leverage improvements on a global scale.
  • Collaborates with members throughout the organization, including business, marketing, R&D, applications, supply chain, procurement, quality, and manufacturing.
  • Represents Lubrizol in professional relationships in projects with external customers, vendors, tollers, contractors and universities, while protecting Lubrizol intellectual property.
  • Identifies and explores new improvement opportunities and technology innovation.
  • Contributes to improvements in Health & Safety, sustainability, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Works respectfully with global team members from diverse cultures across multiple time-zones, outside of normal working hours when needed.
  • Travels to manufacturing locations from Lubrizol and external partners located in the US, and occasionally Europe and Asia, for training and support.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience, demonstrating solid fundamental knowledge of process engineering, unit operations and process safety.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Experience with process improvement methods, such as Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma/DMAIC, 8D, Core Problem Solving, Cause Mapping, Joiner 7 Step Method, Value Stream Mapping, etc.
  • Proficient in statistical data analysis (ANOM, ANOVA, Gage R&R, Capability Analysis) and related software (Statgraphics, Minitab, JMP, Simca).

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with process control: PLC, DCS (DeltaV).
  • Experience with data historian software/tools: Osisoft PI/ProcessBook, Seeq.
  • Knowledge of polymers, specifically Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) and polymer testing and characterization techniques (Rheology, molecular weight, mechanical properties).
