Lubrizol is currently seeking an individual to be part of an innovative, and fast growing division within the Estane organization.  


As a Development Engineer within Lubrizol's Estane division, you will lead medium and large new product development programs targeted in the surface protection markets. You will have responsibility to be the lead technical contact for major customers and supply chain partners as well as develop test protocols to validate end use performance and benchmark against competitive solutions. You will be expected to have frequent contact with external customers, end users and toll partners.




  • Lead new product development projects in surface protection based on current or new technologies.
  • Support new business development efforts through participation in exploratory activities in building and construction and other market spaces.
  • Establish protocols to quantify film, coating or part properties as related to end use performance.
  • Conduct customer trials of newly developed products for surface protection.
  • Investigate alternative film, coating or part assembly methods to optimize performance.
  • Assist other regional application labs and interdivisional projects.
  • Stay current with new developments in chemistry, coatings, characterization and processing.
  • Provide customer and conference technical or product presentations as requested.
  • Proactively maintain a safe working environment and other required scientist functions.



Minimum Requirements:


  • Must have an M.S. degree in Chemistry, Polymer or Material Science and Engineering; Chemical Engineering or related and 2 years of industry experience in new product development
  • 3 years of demonstrated product development experience with plastic films made from extrusion or related polymer fields is required
  • 3 years of demonstrated industry experience providing significant customer support and relationship development is required
  • Experience with basic resin, film and part testing procedures such as GPC, DSC and physical properties is needed
  • Must be willing and able to travel 20-30% with primarily domestic focus
  • Demonstrated project management skills is required
  • Experience with thermoplastic polyurethanes preferred
  • Experience with coatings is a plus
