As a member of the Lubrizol CDMO team you will be engaged in important, exciting, and socially relevant projects.  Lubrizol CDMO is a great place to work, providing a fast-paced environment with a variety of job assignments, technical challenges, and opportunities.  Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and bringing in new client business for all areas, including product development, clinical trial material manufacturing, and commercial production.  The bulk of effort will be on building our commercial pipeline.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing business development expertise to grow Lubrizol’s pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical CDMO business, including the fast-growing contract final drug product manufacturing business. 
  • Achieving monthly sales targets for both marketing-generated lead follow up and self-generated new business leads to achieve desired sales revenue, profit margin, and gross profit targets.
  • Aligning sales objectives with internal stakeholders, coordinating and leading the internal efforts necessary to deliver results
  • Negotiating, tracking and finalizing contracts for development services and manufacturing, including supply agreements for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical business.  Work collaboratively with LubrizoI’s contracts manager and attorneys in drafting and finalizing these agreements as we negotiate with partners.
  • Independently writing and securing development and manufacturing proposals for clients.
  • Routinely using Microsoft Dynamics CRM documentation and reporting to document individual results.
  • Identifying, securing, and assisting in the management of commercial collaborations with clients in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical fields and if appropriate, the licensure of technologies. 
  • Building relationships, company reputation, and market awareness by writing publications and/or giving public presentations in the field. 
  • The preferred candidate will be experienced with bringing in new business for a commercial drug product facility and has experience with partnerships/profit-sharing deals.  A strong preference will be for the candidate to be experienced and familiar with sterile manufacturing and the services associated with these.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BS/PharmD in Pharmacy, Engineering, or related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry, with at least 3  years of experience in business development, is required.
  • Must have a hunter mindset and be able to describe their own business development process.
  • Must be commercially orientated, understanding where to prioritize business for the greatest results with a high level of commercial acumen.
  • Proficient technical understanding of complex pharmaceutical products and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient understanding of commercial manufacturing processes and pricing strategies along with sterile/aseptic commercial CDMO business development and sales.
  • Proven track record in commercial manufacturing business development, has deep industry relationships, and a solid understanding of drug development life cycle.
  • Experience with business development for clinical manufacturing an ability to think outside the box and be creative, and expertise in CMC is a plus.
  • Excellent organization, communication and analytical skills are required.
  • Business knowledge and experience as related to business development operations/activities
  • Knowledge in business and contract negotiation.
  • Proficiency with common PC-based applications and specifically in the use of MS Office is required.
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including: algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators are required.
  • Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates, is required.
