At our Avon Lake facility, the Quality Control Supervisor is accountable for supervising day-to-day activities in the TPU lab as well as supporting our Supply Chain group to fulfill customer orders.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a culture of accountability, safety awareness, and quality in the laboratory
  • Supervises day-to-day activities in the QC laboratory
  • Maintains all lab ISO documentation, including procedures and calibration records
  • Verifies that instruments are maintained per ISO requirements
  • Supports new manufacturing authorizations from QC testing perspective for products
  • Supports the LifeScience Polymer business by confirming all requirements are in place for medical polymers
  • Aids with risk assessment analysis for LLS
  • Prepares for and participates in customer audits
  • Participates on the internal auditing team at the plant
  • Maintains product sample retention requirements for industrial and medical products
  • Initiates and circulates TPU product specifications for approval; maintains TPU product specifications
  • Assists with equipment operation when necessary; identifies and works with Quality Improvement Engineer to identify root cause to reduce future occurrences.
  • Ensures that all necessary lab supplies are available, including the preparation and standardization of necessary reagent/solutions
  • Monitors lab output in SAP to ensure inventory availability
  • Works with Supply Chain to fulfill customer orders, control non-conforming products, and properly manage MA product release
  • Coordinates testing from the pilot plant and R&D for commercial and experimental work
  • Assesses Lab Technician performance, establishes and maintains training systems and sets work performance expectations. Documents and addresses any work performance issues
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels based on manufacturing needs
  • Develops working schedule for relief technician and manages overtime for all technicians
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement projects that improve costs, quality, service, and/or HSES performance
  • Assists management in developing and improving test methods to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Investigates and drives solutions to customer complaints; prepares responses to customers as needed


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements:

  • Previous management or supervisory experience highly preferred
  • Chemical or technical 4-year college degree preferred
  • Knowledge of safe lab practices, lab techniques and quality management principles
  • Knowledge of ISO 90001 and medical requirements
  • Good organizational skills, verbal/written communication skills, mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills & attention to detail
  • Strong MS Office knowledge and skills
  • Experience with TPU’s highly preferred
  • SAP experience, including QM module, highly preferred
