This position resides in the Performance Coatings Process Technology Group in Avon Lake, OH, and is focused primarily on supporting laboratory-based technology development and process troubleshooting initiatives.



  • Ensure safe operations by observing all required Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) procedures while working in a laboratory-based environment.
  • Support resolution of manufacturing and quality issues by replicating processes in the laboratory.
  • Maintain up-to-date laboratory notebooks with clear, well-organized records, and provide accurate information to process engineers.
  • Support laboratory experimentation as directed by process engineers.
  • Set up and operate laboratory glassware and small-scale pilot equipment.
  • Write reports and discuss results with process engineers on experimental findings.
  • Conduct work requests with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Observe pilot plant experiments and collect samples for additional testing.
  • Interface with SAP for sample shipments, work orders, and material supply ordering
  • Interface with the laboratory equipment through DeltaV computer control system.
  • Utilize creative problem-solving skills to troubleshoot new products and to suggest process and product improvements to process engineers.
  • Position is primarily day shift however working hours may include off shift times to finish experiments.


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements 

  • Understanding of chemical handling and safe work practices around hazardous chemicals.
  • High school diploma from an accredited school or GED.
  • Minimum four (4) years industrial chemical laboratory or chemical plant operator experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of quality control test instrumentation.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and SAP.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a larger team.
  • Good organizational skills and record keeping.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.


Considered a Plus

  • Previous understanding of coatings technologies.
  • Previous experience with laboratory techniques and working with hazardous chemicals.
  • Associate technical degree or equivalent experience/education.
