What You'll Do:

As a Process Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, providing engineering support for the daily operations of Polyurethane Dispersion unit at the Avon Lake site. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life. The process engineering role interacts daily with the supervisors, operators, and production staff, helping to coordinate all aspects of the chemical production process.  The position reports directly to the Manufacturing Manager.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Overall efforts are directed towards improving/maintaining the overall production process to meet customer requirements for on-time delivery and product quality, minimize operating costs and maintaining operational HS&E standards. 
  • Provide process troubleshooting and technical directions to manufacturing department – may involve interaction outside normal business hours as department runs 24/7.
  • Perform required SAP transactions to support daily operations, including recipe management, process order and scheduling process, product inventory and batch quality lookup.  Interact daily with Production Coordinator and Supply Chain Planner to successfully execute the operating plan. 
  • Ownership of batch charge sheets as well as DCS recipe parameters.  Configure minor changes to DCS as needed to continuously improve process.
  • Monitor and implement ideas to maximize reactor utilization, batch cycle time and equipment reliability. 
  • Work with project engineers to identify, provide justification and start-up support for capital projects.
  • Support the Process Safety Management program for the department, including the MOC process, PHA participation and follow-up, maintenance of Operating Procedures, operator training and certification, and development of Process Safety Information.
  • Provide technical guidance to maintain/improve all HS&E initiatives for the department.
  • Collect data and generate environmental compliance reports.
  • Use and maintain systems associated with ISO9001 quality standards.
  • Monitor product quality and report on process capability on a periodic basis.  Manage off-spec. materials to provide disposition to the appropriate personnel.  Maintain technology packages for two toll manufacturers.
  • Investigate customer complaints and provide appropriate response to the commercial teams.
  • Limited travel for training/meetings and customer/supplier visits may be required.

 

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering with 1+ years of process engineering experience.
  • Very strong process engineering skills, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and process improvement
  • Background in statistical process control and statistical techniques.
  • Some experience with the engineering and construction process, and project management.
  • Strong data management and organization skills utilizing Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

 

Considered a Plus:

  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Programming experience with Delta V
  • Experience with polymerization chemistry
